The Heritage Days in Sarlat

Every year, Sarlat-la-Canéda, the medieval gem of Périgord Noir, opens its doors during the "European Heritage Days". It’s the perfect opportunity for visitors to discover the historical and cultural wealth of this remarkable city. On the agenda, guided tours lead the curious through the winding streets of the town, unveiling its 15th and 16th-century mansions, its cathedral, and vaulted passages. During these tours, well-kept local historical secrets are also revealed.

But Sarlat is not just about its architecture. These days also highlight key events, such as the presentation of the resistance networks that formed in Dordogne during World War II. Led by passionate historian Patrice Rolli, this conference delves into the heroic actions of the local resistance, including the hiding of materials and arms drops by the British secret services.

For nature lovers, a guided hike is organized, allowing participants to discover Sarlat via its rural paths. This 5 km walk is punctuated with references to lesser-known heritage sites, such as an old hospital and stone dry huts.

Art enthusiasts can take part in a watercolor workshop with renowned artist Catherine Gout, who will guide participants through the town's picturesque corners, offering them the chance to capture the unique beauty of Sarlat on paper.

Finally, the "Heritage Days" also allow the discovery of hidden treasures, such as the baroque furniture of Saint-Sacerdos Cathedral and the exterior of the Manoir de la Boétie, linked to the illustrious writer Etienne de la Boétie.

These days are free and open to all, by reservation. It’s a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the richness of Sarlat’s heritage while participating in various enriching activities.

The European Heritage Days in Sarlat will take place over an entire weekend, with activities planned for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The guided tour times are:
